Espresso Ray App Reviews
It did the job I wanted it to, but made it quite a bit harder than necessary. I was batch converting files. If you select a bunch of files and click "convert", nothing happens. Instead, I discovered you have to double click one of your selected files. My files were on a CD, and espresso ray offered to save the file on the original, write-only, media, which is not helpful. If you forget to change the save location and try to save on the cd, it tells you that (fair enough) but then doesnt remember the location of the files you had just laboriously navigated to deep in the dicom directory structure, so you have to laboriously navigate to them all over again.
Bought the app for a single purpose, opening .dcm files. However, this app won’t open a single one of them. Every single file results in the same error “The document could not be opened” OK.
In case anyone is wondering if this app works on newer systems, it does for me. I’m using a MacMini (late 2012) 16G RAM. As others have noted, you can export multiple files in nested folders as PNGs or JPGs. Simply drag the export folder onto Preview and use your left/right arrow keys to “animate” the slideshow. Seems like the app was written several years ago yet still works fine. Thank you Expresso Ray.
What a blessing that this exists, so I could look at the x-ray my vet’s office sent! Easy-peasy: purchased, opened, figured out which file on the vet’s CD was the image file (it was the one named IM000000, with no file extension), viewed it with full zooming and scrolling capabilities, then saved it to my hard drive in both jpg and png formats with a couple of clicks. Also dragged a copy of the original image file to my hard drive, just in case I ever want to open that again. SO worth the money it isn’t funny - just called my vet’s office and told them to pass the app’s name along to all their Mac-owning customers! They were delighted - and I knew they would be, since I could tell when they told me I wouldn’t be able to view the x-ray on my Mac that they were bracing for a disappointed reaction, clearly from having heard them before…problem solved!
I would like a refund
Unable to open the disc I wanted to view with this app.
Did not work
It didnt work. I tried to change my dicom MRI files to be able to see. But, I want my money back. This didnt work at all for me.
Wanted to view my CT and MRI as quick as I could, glad I found this. This way the doctor can tell me which slide to look at and we can view the same thing without having to be in her office.
使えない。
データはみれるけど計測はできない。 It can provide only pictures as dicim, but we can not gain any numerous date from it.
DICOM viewer
Don’t use it for coronary angiography. It only opens files separately and without loop cine view.
Do not buy. I want a refund too!! Needed dicom viewer to review echocardiograms. Did not work at all. Had to find another software solution via CNET.
I found the application to function correctly, when dicom files were specified. Espresso Ray opened them, no problem. My initial problem was the zip file I was trying to download was not complete and became CPGZ file, which when double clicked became a zip file, which when double clicked became a cpgz file; etc. Information online suggested trying a different browser. I had tried to download with CHROME first. Bad DATA, then I used SAFARI. I didnt seem to see any result, so I went to eat. When I returned there was my files in a new folder titled -0-. Its only four bucks.
DICOM--->NIFTI Suport needed
Michael, I love the simplicity of your App. Can you add conversion to NIFTI file conversion? Thanks! ~Leo
new version worked. The program developer seems to really care about his product and is responsive to problems! Since it had bugs in the beginning giving it 4 starts.
The application did open the dicom echocardiogram files I needed to review. It lacks an “auto play” feature that can be used with echo and TEE images. If that could be added, then it would be great. Thanks.
I had X-rays on a CD that I wanted to copy for another physician. The root folder on the CD showed OpalViewerLite.exe, a unix file named DICOMDIR and then a numbered folder with three other unix files. I’m assuming those are the images themselves. This app was unable to open any of those files. I had another CD with CAT scan images from a different provider. This CD showed and Autorun.inf file, a DICOM fokder, a DICOMDIR unix file, and an eFilmLite folder on the main drive. There were several nested folders and unix images inside the DICOM folder. This app was able to quickly and easily open those and export to JPG files that I can save. So that worked really well for this CD.
does not work - worse yet - does not come with any instructions
i actually work in healthcare i.t. so i kinda know a think or two about these files….do not buy this product
If your trying to view an x-ray from a disk you got from your doc, this is the app you want. It’s easy to use and gets the job done flawlessly. I had a hell of a time trying to find an app that I didnt have to pay for just to view the dicom files until I found this. Couldn’t be more simple- pick the file you want to view and the photo pops up. You can also do “batch” which allows you do convert multiple files at the same time. I got the free version but from what I’ve seen, the upgrade is worth the money.
Didn’t work for me.
I probably just have the wrong kind of xray files. If you don’t know what your doing, you should probably avoid this app.
Got a CD from the doctor containing a DICOM directory with files that had no extension. I was able to open them and once I was satisfied that I had found the correct files, I batch converted the files in that directory to PNG (JPG was also a choice). Converted files look fine. I put 4 stars instead of 5 because I thought the "Select a task" screen was a little un-mac-like.
Worked great
Let me view DICOM files quickly and easily. Worked perfect.
Does not work
Please do not waste $5 it does not work period... Scam
NÃO FUNCIONA!
Não abriu os arquivos DICOM! Quero meu dinheiro de volta
works
was able to open my eFilm Lite files/images without any issues.
Program could not open ANY file. Piece of junk, IMHO.
Program could not open ANY file. Piece of junk, IMHO. Had two DICOM disks I needed to see. Could not open anything?
Exactly what I needed to look at my MRI/Xrays!!!
Wish I had bought this one 1st...bought another app for the same price first and all I could look at was small pictures of my Xrays and MRI (from a disc), while with this app you can convert them to jpg, save them, zoom in/out, scoll to be able to go from image to image without having to open and close each image... Well worth $3.99!!!
Not useful to view knee MRI
One image at a time would take forever, mini views at that too.
Didn’t work for this RN
I am used to having to buy different apps to open CDs from various outpatient and hospital radiology departments. With a Mac it is always harder since these images are always windows based but this app was particularly difficult to get even results to pull up. Now, in their defense the CD has angiograms, CT scans, MRI scans and plain x-rays all on one disc so it may have been to complicated for the converter. Wasted $3.99 for me but was worth a try.
Awesome, needed it to analyze an angiogram from Ukraine.
Worked Perfectly. I finally downloaded this after 3 hours of trying to find a free DICOM file reader. My problem was that the files I had didn’t have file extensions after I unzipped them, and fortunately this program worked perfectly and was able to open them as well as convert them to JPGs. Thank you so much!
Just what I needed
Wanted to view my CT and MRI as quick as I could, glad I found this. This way the doctor can tell me which slide to look at and we can view the same thing without having to be in her office.

As Described On The Tin...
Using a 2009 Mac Pro/OS 10.8.5. On a Windoz CDROM full of dodah for running Agfa's DICOM viewer software, I found the DICOM files, did a batch conversion. All good. Thank you, Verto studio. Well done!
Didn’t work for me.

Didn’t work with OpalViewerLite - Did work with eFilmLite
